The thousand-year old capital of Chang’an, today named Xi’an, contains the great wisdom of Chinese civilization.
It is the starting point of the Silk Road, and thus the designers proposed the concept of a “special city” at the starting point of the Silk Road. The round heaven and the round earth represent the ancient people’s understanding of heaven and earth and constitute key concepts of traditional Chinese culture.
They became the inspiration for the designers’ work. The architects chose round lines for their project, and spaces that favour relaxation. Playing with light and shadow, combined with an astute urban equilibrium, this new “city” is a monument to a favourable blend of old and new.
